On May 25, 2006, I landed in
Chiang Mai with Pastor Bob Selle and my wife Chue. We were taken to the Mission Center
by our driver named Yongyia Vang at around 2:00 pm right after we stopped by to eat at a restaurant
and did some shopping for things we needed at the Mission Center. I am thankful for my wife for the work she
did for us at the Mission
Center.
It
was because some of the students went with vicar Dr. Fungchatou to other villages, our
training class did not start
until we got to the village of Koon Hoiklai three days later. We
decided to use this time to go for an elephant ride which is an
hour away from Chiang Mai. .
Our
plan was changed unexpectedly due to the mango harvest and rainy season.
Students who work in the field could not come to the Mission Center
and this was why we headed to the village.
Another
day was delayed again because it rained so hard at the village, so we decided
not to go until May 30,
2006. And again, we
decided to use this time to visit people at village
of Phanokkok which is closed by the Mission Center, and this was where my foot got
sprained. Oob!
We got to the village of Koon Hoihlai
at about 2:00 pm, May 30, where I got the chance to see the church leader and
his members. At about 8:00 pm,
all Church members included some un-church individuals got together at the
Church, and this was when we gave out the stuff that we bought for them from
Chiang Mai and the US. What a blessing it was for us to share
gifts with the people!
The training class did not
start until May 31. We had only three students attended the training class.
(The Small Catechism). Pastor Bob was
the teacher and I was his translator. We had two sessions during the day. One
session started from 9:0 am- 12:00 pm and the other session started at 2:00 pm
– 5:00 pm. (Students needed little bit
time to rest after lunch). We also planed to have a bible class for the
evening but no one was coming because people got so tired from working in the
fields.
The next day our class was reduced again to only one
student. Phongsak and the other
student had to go to work in the field. They said the mangos had to be picked
up on time before they get ruined by the insects. So, Bob and I decided not to continue the
training class, instead we decided to teach some bible lessons that Bob has
planned. There were four students Because
Phongsak and another student could not attend the class as we planed, Bob and I decided that we should not stay any
longer at the village. We came back to the Mission Center
on June 2nd. At the Mission
Center in Chiang Mai,
Waxue recruited some students from his village, his uncle, his brother-in-law
and his wife, his older brother and
his wife, and their daughter. All together, there were eight students for
Bible lesson. We thank God for bringing these people to us to hear His
message. We pray that the Holy Spirit will open their hearts and receive
Christ as their Savior. The lesson taught was called “God’s giving life”.
Chue
also took part of the day to teach the students Hmong language, while Bob and
I were watching them. I hopped Bob learned some Hmong language too.
I thank
the Lord Jesus Christ for letting us the opportunity to spread his message at
this time in Thailand.
May God
bless you all in Christ’s name, Vicar
Chia Thao
