HMONG HOPE LUTHERAN CHURCH

On April 9th, Rev. Dan McMiller, on behalf of the South Wisconsin District, commissioned me to serve Hmong Hope Lutheran Church in Milwaukee as their pastor.  I was assigned to the congregation so that Vicar Blong, who was installed to serve as the congregation’s leader in 2005, can be free of his time to study the EIIT program and to further develop the Hmong ministry at Benediction Lutheran Church.  As result of this, Vicar Blong Vang has begun the first Hmong service at Benediction on May 7, 2006.  He will continue to reachout to the Hmong families on the Northside of Milwaukee.  I would like to thank the members of Hmong Hope Lutheran Church for their warm welcome of my family into their midst to serve them and to serve the Lord together with them.  I am learning about the ministry of Hmong Hope and very much looking forward to carry out the Lord’s work together with them as we reachout the Gospel to the Hmong community in Milwaukee.

RECEIVING NEW MEMBERS

On April 23, Hmong Hope Lutheran Church received six new members.  The mother, Phoua Her, and her five children.  We wish God’s richest blessings upon them.

FIRST MEETING WITH  COMMITTEE LEADERS

To help me become acquainted with the committee leaders of Hmong Hope, the president of the congregation called a meeting of the leaders to brief me their duties and responsibilities.  I thank these leaders for their ministries and encouraged them to pray for me and my family.  Hmong Hope has been declining in their ministry commitment, Church and Sunday school attendance.  I want to work very close with all the committee leaders to encourage and to equip them to carrying out their task, to visit the inactives, to help the people to be excited in learning God’s Word, to equip the young people and by God’s grace to create a friendly and mission congregation that is ready to share the Gospel to the Hmong in Milwaukee.  May God help us!

NEXT TRIP TO THAILAND

God continues to bless the Thailand Hmong Mission.  On March, a brand new mission has started in a village called Pa Khan, Thailand.  Twenty three people were baptized and a man was appointed the leader for the ministry.  Some families have told me that they will be baptized and join the mission in May.  There are other families in a different village also wanting to join our mission on May.  Plans are underway to follow up with these families.  Dr. Fungchatou Lo will travel to Thailand on May 17 to welcome these families into our mission, and on May 26, Pastor Robert Selle of Wright Town and Vicar Chia Thao of the Fox Cities Lutheran Church will travel to Thailand to teach the leaders there for two weeks.
