JOY OF HARVEST – HMONG OUTREACH MINISTRIES NEWS

March 2006; Vol. 1, No. 1

INTRODUCTION

Joy of Harvest is the name that HMong Outreach Ministries is pursuing for the non-profit organization status.  It will also be a part of the name for our newsletter.  This is a wonderful name to reflect the mission image in the Bible and our passion for reaching the lost.  Please join us in prayers to make it a reality this year.

CHINA PROJECTS

These final weeks of preparation for our China trip have been a blessing beyond our anticipation.  Through our monthly newsletters and Christmas letter that we sent throughout the country, many have shown interests in supporting our projects in China.  Besides individuals, we have congregations expressing interests as well.  The question has been, “How can we contribute to this ministry?”  It has been a great joy for us to see the level of interest that these projects have generated.

Please pray that we will be able to raise the necessary funds to make this trip possible.  Our tentative itinerary from China is a tightly packed ten days schedule.  Once again, the purpose of this trip is to evaluate and explore ministry possibilities.  We will be visiting the sites of our water projects to see the progress and or their completion.  Another important part of the trip is to help evaluate and implement leadership/pastoral training.  A significant part of this trip will be exploring ministry possibilities in areas that the Gospel has not been penetrated in any significant way.

One of our goals with our China project is that it will create the passion for mission among many of us here in the United States of America beginning right where we are, where God has called us to be.  Of course, the possibilities and potentials of what God can do in China is beyond our comprehension.  The impact that ministry can have in China is multiplied not by a few hundreds but millions.

LIGHT OF LIFE RADIO PROGRAM

Pastor Kou & Maykou recording Light of Life

Our mission is to share the saving Good News of Jesus Christ across the world wherever there is a HMong community.  The Lord continues to bless this part of our ministries in ways that only the Christian faith can understand.  One example among many, Maykou spent a Saturday morning at the Merced open market sharing the good news of Jesus to many.  As a part of the tools for reaching out to many that are not yet Christians are copies of our radio program.  It was such a joy for Maykou to spend a whole morning witnessing to many folks.  One of the highlights has to do with a mother sharing how her daughter has learned so much from just listening to the Lord’s Prayer.  She mentioned that it was such a good way to learn how to pray (The disciples did ask Jesus how to pray).  Out of the prayer, she learned that we are to forgive others, our enemies as well.  This is coming from a teenager.  All we can say is WOW! WOW! WOW! PRAISE THE LORD!

The blessings for this radio ministry continue by way of a $2000 check from Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Paul, Minnesota to help cover the cost of broadcasting our program in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.  A generous gift received last year has made it possible for us to expand our broadcast and purchased some necessary equipment so that our recording is the best of possible quality.  As many of you know, the cost of producing a weekly program can deplete our limited fund quickly.  More resources are needed to continue our mission of Light of Life.

LEADERSHIP TRAINING

We have successfully launched our two-year leadership program.  There were 12 all together at the first session.  Our current leadership pool stretches from Visalia to Sacramento.  Unfortunately, some of the leaders were not able to come due to work schedule conflict.  We are seeking a make-up session for these leaders so that they can catch up and join the rest of the leaders on the next session.  The excitement truly filled the room at the first session.  One of the benefits of having leaders meet together is the learning and sharing that take place among each other.  We explored the concept of Christian confessions—what does it mean to be a Christian?  In this first session, much attention was devoted to the whole idea that the entire Bible is really a confession of faith.  The next session, we will continue to explore the chief articles of the Christian faith.

PLANS FOR NEW MINISTRY STARTS

Besides continuing to grow our current ministries in Merced and Sacramento, the goal for 2006 is to start three new ministries in California: Fresno, Stockton, and San Jose.  Initial visits have been made to these cities.  Potential leaders have been identified.  The next few months will be critical in terms of preparing for the next steps in bringing these ministry starts into realities.

THE AIRPLANE SEARCH CONTINUES

Our search for an airplane or the usage of an airplane continues—we have pilots stepping up to help with flying along with Pastor Kou so that the workload of flying can be minimized.  Now we just need an airplane to cover the vast area of our ministries in the West Coast.
