What
is my purpose in life? I am sure that many of you had asked this question of yourselves too. Often we would come to the conclusion that the answer is within each of us. This means you have to look inside of you for your own purpose in life. I also did the same, but came to the conclusion that the more I search for my life purpose within me, the more confused I became. I got some frustrated that I did’t even know what I am good at anymore. So, I turned to the Lord and started reading His Word. I learned in Geneses that God created man to take care what He has created, and in 2 Corinthian 5, I learned that as a Christian, I am God’s ambassador to the world. So, on May of 2004, I resigned from my Associated Professor position with St. John’s University and accepted a call to work as a Deacon and the Director of Hmong Ministry at Grace Lutheran Church and for Hmong Mission Society, and as a Mission Facilitator for North American LCMS Hmong ministry. |

Grace
Lutheran Hmong Ministry As the Director for the Hmong Ministry at Grace Lutheran
Church in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, I motivated the Hmong members to do a
need assessment of the Hmong community.
We found some very interesting facts and presented them at the first
LCMS Hmong Pastors, Vicars and wives conference in Madison, Wisconsin on
August 2004. I also developed a new
evangelism strategy called “The Lord
supper” to share the Gospel with the Hmong people in the community. Our goal for 2005 is to get our Hmong
members to become good at sharing the Good News through this new evangelism
technique. At the present time, we are
working hard to reach out to the new Hmong refugee families by showing
Christ’s love through assisting them by locating used furniture and
clothes. We will be having a dinner to
welcome them to our community on |

Hmong
Mission Society & Thailand
Hmong As the Director for Hmong Mission Society, my goals are to
promote the mission of the society and to do fundraisings to support its
purpose. President Rev. Yia and I are
on the process of strategizing efforts to generate supports for this
society. One of the most exciting
things that is happening within the umbrella of the Hmong Mission Society is
the Thailand Hmong Mission. God has
blessed our ministry in Thailand with many new Christians. Every time we had missionaries gone to
Thailand, someone became baptized. I
have had the privilege of going to Thailand twice this past year and was over
joy with God’s grace. In May of 2004,
I was in Thailand with Rev. Rich Latterner.
We visited Hmong villages and the Hmong refugee in Wat
Thamkakbok. We also did a lot of
teaching from the Word and sharing the Good News with Hmong villagers. In December 2004, my brother-in-law Bobby
Vang and I went to Thailand. We rented
a new facility for us to use as a teaching center. We also found a plot of land to be
purchased for our mission work but the funding did not go though so we had to
delay it. We visited different Hmong
villages and identified a potential site for a new ministry. God has guided the Thailand Hmong Mission
every steps of the way in Thailand.
Right now, with a donation from a member a Grace Lutheran Church, we
are on the process of building a church for the new Christians in the village
of Kong Hoi Klai. We are anticipating
having the church be finished by May 2005.
We are looking for volunteer missionaries and donations to support
this wonderful ministry in Thailand.
For more information please contact I want to thank all the volunteer missionaries for their time and monetary support. Appreciation also goes to those Christian brothers and sisters who financially supported the Thailand Mission along with other donations such as personal hygiene products and quilts. |

As the Hmong Mission Facilitator, it is my prayer and goal that five new Hmong ministries will be started within the next two years. In 2004, I initiated four new sites for Hmong ministry. I have contacted the Southeastern District and started a new Hmong ministry in Charlotte, North Carolina. At the present time, the District is working hard with a Hmong Christian man to get him install as a Deacon so he could start doing ministry in the Charlotte area. I visited the New England District and currently working to get a Hmong ministry started in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. I also contacted the English District in California for support to start a Hmong ministry in Sacramento, California. With Rev. Kouseying in Merced, I know that God will answer our prayer for a Hmong ministry in Sacramento. I had communicated with the Mid-South District to start a Hmong ministry in Arkansan. I will be meeting with that District’s Mission Director in February to see how we can work together to get a Hmong ministry started in Little Rock, Arkansan. Please keep us in your prayers. With the quick relocation of Rev. Zong Houa Yang and his family to Florida, the Hmong members at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Lansing, Michigan was left without much preparation for such a change. I was summoned to provide assistance. With the support from the Michigan District and Our Savior Lutheran Church, Mr. NumLang Yang was called to be the Deacon for the Hmong ministry. At the present time Deacon Yang is working full-time for St. Michael and Our Savior Lutheran Church. I would like to thank CAME for supported the work that I did as a mission facilitator for the Hmong ministry during 2004. It is a great blessing that CAME continues to support the Hmong ministry in 2005 and beyond. I also want to think Partners In Mission; Grace Lutheran Church in Brooklyn Park and the Minnesota South District for supported the Hmong ministry at Grace. |

For 2005, the question should be “What is God’s purpose in life for me?” As I am new at solely doing God’s work, I don’t know what exactly God’s plans are for me for 2005. However, I know for sure that I am his ambassador and I will do whatever He calls me to do. I could be a life long missionary like the Apostle Paul or could be a short-term missionary like Philip in Acts. I am putting my life in His hands and trusting Him to lead me. Should God desire me to continue to serve Him as a church worker; I look forward to working with all of you from different districts across the United States, local churches, and ministries. May His name be glorified forever! Amen. |
